Imperial Intelligence, formally the Imperial Intelligence Service and usually abbreviated as I.I., is the intelligence agency of the Fel Empire and its predecessor the Galactic Empire. It is organized into central bureaus, themselves divided into branches, and with various other units and task forces. The agency makes use of covert operations to spy on the Empire's enemies, be they domestic or foreign. They are responsible for watching the activities of various governments, corporations and other forces in the galaxy. Including any notable mercenary, bounty hunters or other outlaw and criminal activities. They supply any information to the various branches in the Imperial Military regarding any potential targets and strategic Intel.

Imperial Intelligence cooperates with, but is separate from, the Imperial Security Bureau that is the Empire's primary law enforcement agency.

Bureaus

  • Adjustments Bureau: The elite black-ops unit of Imperial Intelligence that answers directly to the Director Moff. If a situation devolves to the point that the bureaus and their various branches are unable to control it, an Adjustment unit is sent to take charge of the situation and fix the problem. Orders to Adjustments are always verbal and written records of their missions are never kept.
  • Analysis Bureau: Responsible for handling large amounts of data from tens of millions of sources, searching for enemy activity by analyzing the patterns or trends in the data they handle and transmitting the information to the Intelligence Bureau. Analysis also handles, examines and copies useful technologies.
    • Cryptanalysis Branch: Responsible for all code-breaking. All evidence of coded communication found through Media and Signal's work were transferred to the Cryptanalysis branch.
    • Interrogation Branch: Responsible for the handling of enemy agents captured by Imperial Intelligence. Interrogation, while more ruthless than their counterparts in Imperial Naval Intelligence, was not as bloodthirsty as their counterparts in the Imperial Security Bureau.
    • Media Branch: Responsible for monitoring public scandocs, newsdocs, comlinks, beamcasts, and other media within the Empire to look for hidden messages and patterns that might have been planted by enemy agents.
    • Signal Branch: Examines the channel through which information was transmitted. Signal samples and checks carrier wave codes and protocols, scan rates on scandocs, and image packs on holos to see if any vital information was being squeezed through.
    • Tech Branch: Responsible for analyzing an enemy's hardware, figuring out how it worked and devising methods to provide Intelligence with superior hardware. Tech was given a lavish budget and a number of highly skilled personnel whose moments of brilliant inspiration could translate into innovative technology.
  • Imperial Complink Bureau: Uses software secretly installed on computers throughout the Empire to monitor electronic communications. The spyware would transmit information packets to orbiting hyperspace transmitters that would forward the information to CompLink Bureau for study by the Analysis Bureau.
  • Intelligence Bureau: Responsible for interpreting the data collected by the Analysis Bureau to predict the next moves of the Empire's enemies.
    • Crisis Branch: A crisis response branch formed in times of great crisis out of experts from the other branches. In peace times this branch would be shut down.
    • External Communications Branch: Known as ExComm, it is responsible for managing the equipment that relayed emergency or high priority messages between the various bureaus of Imperial Intelligence, the Ubiqtorate, and the Imperial military that required fast and immediate delivery.
    • Sector Branch: A large branch that has sections in every sector of the Empire. They were formed of experts familiar with the situations of their home sector that could offer their opinions and analysis to other branches depending on the situation.
    • Sedition Branch: Predicts trends of groups that offered resistance to the Empire, thus working to end and prevent rebellions.
  • Internal Operations Bureau: Known as IntOrg, and tasked with overseeing the agency's internal affairs and internal security matters. Their directive is the security of Imperial Intelligence, both from an espionage and operations scale, as well as a physical security standpoint.
    • Internal Security Branch: Known as IntSec, it is a branch of IntOrg that acts as the security police for Imperial Intelligence facilities. They are the only visible uniformed branch of Imperial Intelligence to openly carry weapons. Field operatives of the section use the title Officer instead of Agent (i.e.: Staff Officer, Senior Officer, etc.). Each facility's security staff is its own IntSec Section Unit.
    • Internal Counterintelligence Branch: Known as IntCon, it is the internal affairs and counterintelligence service of Imperial Intelligence. IntCon is organized as a miniature Imperial Intelligence and divided into three units: Internal Analysis Section, Internal Operations Section, and Internal Intelligence Section.
  • Operations Bureau: Also known as Bureau of Operations or the Bureau. It handles the covert operations which are beyond the scope or required greater resources than those of the average operations capabilities of local Imperial Intel assets. It was divided into six distinct branches.
    • Assassination Branch: Responsible for the removal of key members of the opposition to the Empire. Assassination's agents are trained to take every advantage, to use every trick and matter of subterfuge possible to get to their targets and eliminate them.
    • Counterintelligence Branch: Known by the codename Renik. While the Internal Organization Bureau performed counter-intelligence operations for the internal operations of Imperial Intelligence, Renik focused on operations within the Imperial government as a whole. They specialized in identifying and dismantling enemy intelligence operations.
    • Destabilization Branch: Known as Destab or Quiet Branch. Destab specialized in "taking the fabric which holds a people, society or government together and unraveling it." The quiet branch was infamous for their excessive methods to accomplish this, in the past resorting to full-fledged atrocities to instill pure terror into a population, destroying any semblance of social order.
    • Diplomatic Services Branch: Known as DiploServ. Its personnel were responsible for trade and diplomatic missions for the Empire. They also accounted for the political experts advising the Imperial planetary governors and Moffs.
    • Infiltration Branch: Responsible for subterfuge operations within enemy organizations. Double agents were active operatives, and were expected to take an active role in enemy operations. The goal for the agent was to provide Imperial Intelligence with information that would cause greater damage to its enemies than the damage caused by the agent against the Empire. Polwocz agents were those in deep cover intended to remain undetected for years if necessary, before striking in one devastating blow.
    • Surveillance Branch: Keeps watch on serious threats to the Empire. Sorting through information and unerringly selecting suspects currently involved in anti-Imperial activity, Surveillance does its job with deadly efficiency, despite their small size.
  • Sector Plexus Bureau: Responsible for the hub for all information processed by Imperial Intelligence. Sector Plexus maintained an enormous database filled with information on every Imperial Intelligence officer, their aliases, and their activities. The Sector Plexus used Plexus courier droids to securely transport this data across the galaxy.
